Vintage-wash and hand-distressed pieces are designed to look worn in, but that doesn't mean you should wear them out. A few simple habits keep the fade, frays and fit exactly how they were meant to be.
Washing
- Turn it inside out. This protects the wash, the graphics and any distressed areas from rubbing against other clothes.
- Cold or 30°C, gentle cycle. Hot water fades color faster and can shrink cotton.
- Wash with similar colors. Garment-dyed and washed pieces may release a little color in their first few washes.
- Go easy on detergent and skip bleach completely.
Drying
- Tumble dry low or hang dry. High heat is the number-one cause of shrinkage and cracked prints.
- Reshape heavyweight tees and hoodies while damp so the boxy shape sets correctly.
Frayed and raw edges
Hand-frayed hems, like those on the Classic Frayed Boxy Tee and Vintage Wash Boxy Distressed Hem T-Shirt, will soften and fray a little more over time. That's part of the character. If a loose thread gets too long, trim it with scissors rather than pulling it.
Graphics and prints
Don't iron directly over a print. Iron inside out on low heat, or use a garment steamer.
Denim
Vintage-wash jeans and jackets need washing less often than you think. Wash every few wears, inside out and cold, and hang to dry. You'll keep the fade sharp and the fit consistent.

Storage
- Fold heavyweight tees and hoodies. Hanging can stretch the shoulders over time.
- Keep washed pieces out of direct sunlight in your closet unless you want them to fade even more.
